I am a Canadian student who wish to work in California. What are some things on the checklist?
I am currently a student in Canada and in about a year or so, I'll have my degree. I look forward to moving to California for college, but this means he would need a place to live as well as work. For me to be a permanent resident in California, what do I need? I am a Canadian citizen and student.
First place … can not be a "permanent resident" of California .. no such thing. You have to apply to immigrate to the U.S. and become a permanent resident U.S. The only way to have any chance to immigrate to the U.S. is if you have a family member to sponsor you or a rare ability for you to find employment an employer to sponsor them. If you want to come to the U.S. to attend graduate school … you do not need a visa … are only accepted by the University wishing to attend and the office of international students who will walk you through the forms to complete. This applies only to Canadians … other international students must have a visa. As an international student you would be able to work 20 hours a week on campus only. If you want to come to the U.S. simply to work, you must find an employer to hire you and sponsor your work visa … almost impossible.
